Job Summary:
Join a successful, small manufacturing company in Carson, CA as our Operations Manager. This hands-on leadership role is responsible for overseeing daily operations to ensure the safe, efficient production of high-quality products in compliance with ISO 9001:2015. The Operations Manager will lead continuous improvement efforts using lean manufacturing principles, manage production and inventory performance, maintain safety programs, and promote a culture of accountability and efficiency. This position reports directly to the President.
Production Key Performance Indicators:
• Sales order OTD ? 95% each year
• Internal work order OTD ? 90% each year
• Annual improvement of process time for pumps and component parts
• Improve engagement of shop floor employees with continuous improvement activities
Measured by employee suggestions and $ savings from improvement activities
• Maintain a warrantable return rate < 0.5% of products shipped
• Inventory Days (average days from receipt to shipment)
Sourcing Key Performance Indicators:
• COGS (- wages) as % of revenue
• Supplier On-Time Delivery %
• Supplier Quality (First Pass Yield %)
Production Key Job Tasks:
Production Management
• Drive continuous improvement within production
o Meet production requirements: on-time performance and 1st pass yield data
o Monitor shop personnel efficiency (actual vs. estimated time) and proactively manage labor costs, including minimizing overtime
o Produce measurable data (goals vs. actual) to document performance
? Manage and publish production metrics (OTD, scrap, efficiency, yield)
o Apply lean manufacturing methods to improve efficiency, shop ergonomics, and reduce waste
• Attend and contribute to Management Review meetings to improve the overall performance of our company
• Monitor work orders (including routers and BOM’s) and correct incorrect documents
• Ensure proper procedures are documented and followed throughout Manufacturing Dept
• Troubleshoot tooling and die issues
• Troubleshoot machine/equipment issues
Manage Shop Floor Employees and Shipping Department to Meet Production Schedules
• Manage shipping/receiving and other shop employees to ensure the shop floor operates efficiently, safely and to our quality standards.
o Meet or exceed customer ship dates
o Performance reviews of subordinates (shop employees)
? Compile performance data and attendance records collected from ERP barcoding system. Assemble this data with non-measured inputs to complete yearly reviews
? Delegate shop floor management to team leads
o Maintain the safety of ASP employees
o Facilitate 5S activities and improvements
• Maintain and improve the Preventative Maintenance Program
• Develop and manage employees to prepare them for long term success at ASP
Inventory Management
• Oversee production planner: mentor, support, and develop
o Adjust minimum/safety/reorder quantities when needed
o Manage cycle counts as needed to maintain accurate inventory
o Correct discrepancies between on-hand and reported quantities
• Maintain company goals for “inventory days” metric (average days from receipt to shipment)

Safety
• Oversee safety program implementation and training, shop organization and 5S implementation
• Conduct Monthly Safety Meetings and regular safety drills to confirm shop employees’ knowledge of disaster procedures
• Update and maintain safety manual and all safety documents in accordance with OSHA standards
Sourcing Key Job Tasks:
Work with Sales and Production to Meet Demand
• Ensure manufacturing has the components and resources needed to complete scheduled work orders
Supplier Management
• Track, report, and drive improvement on sourcing KPIs (cost, quality, on-time delivery)
• Oversee buyers and ensure incoming PO due dates are accurate, material is ordered on-time
• Monitor supplier quality data and OTD with Quality Dept
• Provide critical suppliers with Quarterly Supplier Scorecards
o work with supplier sales reps for improvements
• Clearly communicate expectations with suppliers
• Facilitate On-Time Supplier Corrective Action Reports (with ASP Quality)
• Ensure buyers update supplier lead times and ERP system for accuracy
• Update safety stock/ReOrder points for inventoried items
Job Requirements:
• 5+ years managing experience in a production/manufacturing environment
o Leadership skills: inspire team to improve and excel
o 3+ years experience applying Lean Manufacturing principles (Kaizen, Kanban, Single Piece Flow, 5S)
o Experience with production planning
o Performance reviews for subordinates
Education
o 4-year engineering degree is preferred but not required. Must have relevant experience.
• Mechanically inclined
o Experience with lathes, presses, mills and other shop machinery
o Knowledge of machine functionality
• Computer Skills
o Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Excel / Word / Access / Outlook
o Basic knowledge and experience with
? Resourcefulness and research capability using the internet
? ERP/MRP systems
? Microsoft Power BI and Power Automate preferred
• Good written and language skills. English proficient. Prefer experience with the following:
o Creating work instructions
o ISO internal audit reports
• Experience working in an ISO 9001 manufacturing environment
o Experience performing ISO9001 internal audits
• Planning Skills
o APICS CPIM certification preferred
